Adestra (Upland Adestra) Integration Guide

Overview

This guide explains what Bridged needs from your Adestra account to connect a contact/attendee list and generate personalised content per contact. Bridged does not send or broadcast emails through Adestra — your team keeps full control of scheduling and delivery. Bridged writes a personalisation field to each contact, which your team then references inside your own Adestra message template.

Adestra access is provisioned through an account-level API key, tied to your Adestra account name.

Note: Exact menu labels can vary slightly depending on your Adestra account version. If any of the steps below don't match what you see, your Adestra account manager or support team can point you to the equivalent screen.

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have:

  • Administrator access to your Adestra account

  • Your Adestra Account Name (shown on your login screen)

  • Confirmation that API access is enabled on your account — if you don't see an API option under account settings, contact Adestra support to have it enabled

  • The list you want Bridged to read contacts from

Step 1: Confirm API Access is Enabled

  1. Log in to Adestra.

  2. Go to Account Settings → API.

  3. If you see an option to generate or view an API key, API access is already enabled — continue to Step 2.

  4. If you don't see this option, contact Adestra support and request API access be enabled for your account.

Step 2: Generate API Credentials

  1. From Account Settings → API, generate (or copy, if one already exists) your API key.

  2. Note your Account Name alongside it — both are required for Bridged to authenticate.

Important: Store the API key securely. Treat it the same way you would a password.

Step 3: Identify the List to Share

  1. Go to Contacts → Lists.

  2. Identify the list you want Bridged to use, and note its List name (or List ID, if shown).

Step 4: Create the Personalisation Field

Bridged writes generated personalisation content to a custom profile field, which you then insert into your message template as a merge field.

  1. Go to Contacts → Manage Fields.

  2. Click New Field.

  3. Set the field type to a text/HTML-compatible type.

  4. Name it something identifiable, e.g. Bridged_Personalized_Content.

  5. Save the field.

What to Share with Bridged

Send the following to your Bridged contact:

  • Account Name

  • API key

  • List name to use

  • Custom field name created in Step 4

Using the Field in a Campaign

When building a message in Adestra, insert the custom field created in Step 4 as a personalisation token in your template — the same way you would insert first name or company fields today. Bridged populates this field per contact; your team controls when and how the campaign sends.
